All you should know about CBD

CBD is one of the most misunderstood substances on the market today – people confuse it with marijuana, or they assume it’s illegal, or they think it’s only for the terminally ill. It’s easy to be misinformed with the amount of false information floating around the internet. In short: CBD is not marijuana, it’s totally legal (in all states bar three) and it can be used by absolutely anyone. For the detailed version of those answers, read on!

What is CBD?

CBD is the short form of cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound found in cannabis and is used to impart a feeling of relaxation or calm to the person consuming it.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is the oil that is extracted from hemp, one of the two main plants in the cannabis family. Hemp has a much higher CBD percentage than its psychoactive cousin, marijuana.

Is CBD legal?

CBD, as well as the growing and marketing of hemp and hemp products is completely, 100% legal as of December 2018.

What does CBD do?

CBD generally affects the endocannabinoid system in the human body which regulates the body’s homeostasis, balance and functions like sleep, hunger, mood, hormonal regulation and pain response. As a result, CBD can positively regulate mood, manage pain and appetite, improve memory and the immune system, and aid restfulness in sleep. Last year the FDA approved Epidiolex, which is a CBD product to treat epilepsy.

What does CBD feel like?

It’s difficult to pin down, as using a CBD-based product will often vary from person to person. Oftentimes the most common explanation is not necessarily what it feels like, but what it doesn’t feel like. With CBD, there is an absence of anxiety, insomnia and pain. CBD helps get rid of these negative, weighty feelings and bring the body to a comfortable homeostasis. What it feels like is whatever your body feels like without anxiety or pain!

Does CBD oil contain THC?

No, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a psychoactive agent found in the cannabis plant, but is a separate chemical compound from CBD. You won’t feel any of the euphoric, altered or sedated feelings that come with consumption of THC in any CBD products. The high that people associate with weed? That’s not what you get with CBD.

Is CBD legal in all states?

In a wide sense, yes. Hemp and CBD can be freely grown and marketed under federal law. There are some nitty-gritty details when to comes to different states, especially when grouped together with marijuana use. However, when just considering CBD, all states (excluding Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota) consider CBD to be legal for recreational purposes.

Should marijuana be legal?

While we are only a humble CBD shop, and lots of studies and stories have been written on both sides of the debate on marijuana legalization, we are firmly on the side of legalization. We believe that cannabis should be free to grow, consume and sell as readily as any alcoholic products on the market in the United States today. We believe that because of the psychoactive ingredients in marijuana, it should indeed be regulated by the FDA as we believe that this process of regulation will be safer for consumers. Unlike many hard drugs, there is no toxic dose of marijuana and many prescription drugs and alcohol do much more harm than marijuana consumption does. On the contrary, there are a lot of health benefits to having marijuana legalized that are not unlike the positives of CBD oil: pain management, appetite reduction and anxiety treatment.
